Jumio , a secretive online payments start-up created by Jajah founder Daniel Mattes , is finally ready for its close-up. That’s a fitting metaphor, because Jumio is enabling online credit card payments made by scanning a card with a computer webcam.

Further evidence that we are all YouTube addicts comes from the Pew Internet & American Life Project this morning: 71 percent of U.S. adults used video sharing sites like YouTube and Vimeo in May, according to a new Pew report , compared to 66 percent a year earlier. Also interesting is the percentage of users who told researchers that they stopped by such a site yesterday, which grew to 28 percent

Verizon is launching an LTE-enabled Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Honeycomb tablet on July 28 , available in two configurations. The 16 GB model will cost $529.99 and a 32 GB version adds $100 to that.

Dell today announced a reference architecture, open source software and services  offering designed to make deploying an OpenStack-based cloud as easy as following directions. Called the Dell OpenStack Cloud solution, the collection of tools shows that OpenStack will be a driving force in the private-cloud space, but also that there’ll be plenty of competition among vendors trying to sell companies their particular flavor of OpenStack

HTC wants to talk, but will Apple listen?

HTC said it’s open to negotiating with Apple to settle a pitched patent fight between the two companies, but it’s unclear how willing Apple is to talk and how much HTC can extract from negotiations. HTC’s chief financial officer Winston Yung told Bloomberg that the Taiwanese company is open to discussing a deal that would resolve the legal issues that have embroiled the two manufacturers. On July 15 Apple  won an initial victory at the U.S.

Twilio, the company, which provides a service so companies and web services can add voice or SMS to their menu of options, now will offer access to a VoIP service as well. The company, whose APIs underlie popular apps like GroupMe and Beluga , now offers developers the option to use all IP communications as well as the old-school phone and mobile networks. Previously the company’s killer app was its hooks into the old copper-based phone system that can be expensive and complicated for smaller companies to learn to use and write to.

YouTube responsible for 22% of all mobile bandwidth

Close to a quarter of all global mobile bandwidth is consumed by people watching YouTube videos, according to a new report from network management vendor Allot Communications . The global bandwidth share of the Google-owned video site was 22 percent in the first half of 2011, compared with just 17 percent in the first half of 2010.
