Firm claims Apple’s Siri, Google Voice devices violate 1998 patent

In a sweeping lawsuit, a Colorado shell company is suing the entire mobile phone industry over a patent for inventions where “Oral input is used to control a digital computer.” The lawsuit singles out Apple’s iPhone 4S and its Siri voice assistant as well as a range of phone makers like Samsung and Sony that use Google Voice technology.

Snapguide is the first mobile app with Pinterest integration

Snapguide, the three-week-old iPhone and web app that lets users create “how-to” guides with pictures and videos, is the first mobile app to integrate with Pinterest for “seamless sharing.” To get Pinterest integration, Snapguide users have to have the latest version of the Pinterest iOS app installed. Pinterest has  not yet  released its API to the public, and Snapguide worked with Pinterest to make the integration happen

As China’s two online video leaders merge to improve their position in the fast-growing field, three of their rivals are also teaming up to fight back. The Tencent and Sohu portals and Baidu’s iQiyi video service are collaborating to jointly license professional content.

Calls for big-six publishers to drop DRM have increased in recent weeks, coinciding with the DOJ price-fixing lawsuit. Many observers fear that the lawsuit will actually reduce competition in the e-book marketplace by cementing Amazon’s role as the dominant player — and they wonder whether DRM is simply another  weapon in Amazon’s arsenal , keeping customers locked to the Kindle Store. Here at paidContent, independent e-bookstore Emily Books ‘ Emily Gould and Ruth Curry have  argued  that DRM is crushing indie booksellers online. And Hachette VP, digital Maja Thomas recently  described  DRM as “a speedbump” that “doesn’t stop anyone from pirating.” Still, it may be a long way from this discussion to the first big-six publisher’s actual removal of DRM from its e-books

China’s YouTube has found a place for itself in the country’s broadcasting industry as the host of submissions made by hundreds of contestants in a nationwide talent contest. Youku has partnered with satellite TV firms and record labels on Legendary Me , a televised music competition. It says videos it is hosting of would-be superstars auditioning to camera have been viewed more than 15 million times since March.
