Judge comes down hard on publishers, Apple in e-book case

In a strongly worded opinion , US District Judge Denise Cote rejected requests by Apple and five book publishers to throw out a class action suit that accuses them of price-fixing. Citing ongoing state, federal and international antitrust investigations, Cote turned down arguments that Apple and the publishers had acted independently when they changed the pricing model for e-books.

Humor site JibJab doesn’t think White Castle’s latest ad campaign is very funny, and has filed a lawsuit to stop the fast food chain from using its name to promote “chicken rings” on Facebook. JibJab , which gained global fame for a presidential parody in 2004 , makes satire videos and online greeting cards like “elf yourself” that let people put their faces on animated figures

NBC may have been criticised for not streaming enough Olympics Games – but, in the U.K., the BBC plans to stream all 2,500 hours of this summer’s London 2012 events (up from 1,500 in 2008), in what it’s calling “the first proper digital Olympics.” “It’s the first time our audience gets total control,” BBC News & Knowledge GM Phil Fearnley said during a Tuesday briefing, in which executives showed products demonstrating already-announced plans to offer 24 alternate live HD streams (up from six in 2008).

Japan’s largest mobile telco is about to buy in to mobile media content in Europe and farther afield, by acquiring one of the space’s pioneer companies. NTT Docomo has tabelled a €224 million ($287 million, 24 billon yen) bid for Milan-based Buongiorno , which began in 1995 and has built up through acquisitions to offer mobile games, music and other services.
