I’d just stood behind an army of friendly bots and wailed on the X button repeatedly to finish off an enemy turret when memories of many wasted summer hours came flooding back: “I’m playing 2-D Monday Night Combat , aren’t I?” No one warned me ahead of time that Awesomenauts is just another in a long list of arena-battle games taking direct inspiration from the old WarCraft III mod “Defense of the Ancients.” But it is.
